It’s not horribly overpriced, but it is overpriced nonetheless, especially compared to other bottles retailing for $40 such as Maker's 46 or Knob Creek Single Barrel. At $40 this is selling for around $10 more than it should be for what’s in the bottle. While in-line with some of its peers mentioned above, it’s slightly out of line on price. While not the exact carbon copy flavor wise, it comes satisfyingly close. I’m not saying its flavor profile is better than the single barrel version, or that the single barrel version is phenomenal, but when a small batch can almost match a single barrel product of itself, that’s pretty impressive. Taylor Single Barrel and is able to do so for $20 less. What really wins it over for me though, is that while it’s a small batch variant, it nicely captures many of the same traits that are exhibited in the more expensive E.H. While I was surprised at how alcohol forward it was on the nose, given time to open up, it quickly resolves itself in the glass thankfully. It delivers a quality well balanced flavor profile that is hard to overly critique, yet is also hard pressed to really distinguish itself from say a Buffalo Trace or Four Roses Small Batch. Taylor’s release is in-line with the rest of the pack. For an everyday small batch bourbon, E.H. I’d, however, also put that a bit below the Small Batch.At 100 proof, it’s very easy to drink and the flavors are rich and quite enjoyable. If you’re looking to enjoy something similar to EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel for about half the money, Eagle Rare 10 would be something to consider. Blanton’s would be a good choice as would John J Bowman. This is a low-rye Bourbon and it doesn’t’ have too many peers, so we’ll look further in the rye category for similar bottles at this price range. Small Batch and that would be my top alternate to EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel to research or buy. (My 5 point scale: Pass, Try a Glass, Buy a Bottle, Buy Again, Shut Up and Take My Money – Bottle price is taken into consideration for recommendations.) Buying Options and Further Research EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel Recommendation I’d probably recommend checking the Small Batch out first and if you enjoy it grab this EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel and compare. Maybe a little more body in the EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel with a little more of that hot cinnamon, but side by side I didn’t see $20 difference. At the same adjusted proof I found them to pretty similar. Small Batch? For me that’s $20 less and generally easier to find. The big question for me is how this stacks up to the EH Taylor Jr. I think I prefer this at around 90-95-proof. Once I get settled in I find myself enjoying this as the glass goes down and wanting more when it’s gone. I’ve been enjoying this bottle of EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel. Water dials down the heat a bit and brings out more toffee and sweetness. A little jammy. Oak builds in the finish with a nice richness that’s a little woody, spicy, and nutty. Buffalo Trace’s #1 Mash of about less than 10% rye. MSRP – $59.99 (2016 Price) Aromaįruity. The later was a special release of barrels exposed to the weather after a 2006 tornado damaged Buffalo Trace’s Warehouse C. Distillery was purchased by George T Stagg in 1878 and Buffalo Trace has commemorated this line of Bourbons to Taylor. Colonel EH Taylor Jr Single Barrel comes from the Buffalo Trace Distillery and is named after Bourbon legend Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr.
